Young grizzly bear captured near Okotoks

Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers have captured a grizzly bear just north of Okotoks, Alta., after issuing a warning in the area.

The juvenile bear had been prowling the outskirts of the southern Alberta community for several days.

"That would definitely be grizzly bear habitat many, many years ago, but it's unusual for us to see grizzly bears right around Okotoks itself," said Fish and Wildlife officer Ron Weeb.

He says it is a healthy bear that was just feeding on natural food sources in the area.

Wildlife officers set up some traps to aid in capturing the animal. The bear will be relocated to a remote area somewhere north of Canmore on Thursday.

Okotoks is 45 kilometres south of Calgary.
