Alberta woman charged with animal cruelty to undergo psychiatric assessment

A southern Alberta woman charged with animal cruelty will undergo a psychiatric assessment.

A southern Alberta woman charged with animal cruelty will undergo a psychiatric assessment.

April Dawn Irving, who lives near Milk River, Alta. is to be assessed at the Southern Alberta Psychiatric Forensic Center to determine if she had a mental disorder at the time of the alleged offences.

Irving faces 14 charges under Alberta's Animal Protection Act.

She was charged after five dead dogs were found on her property in January. Another 201 animals were seized.

Irving is to return to Lethbridge provincial court on Dec. 18.
