It's good news for organic food worshippers as Whole Foods Market announced plans today to open three new locations in Western Canada.

The chain has been in Canada for more than 10 years but the Calgary and Edmonton stores will be their first ventures into Alberta.

“We will be working with growers, suppliers, ranchers and manufacturers in Alberta, and on Vancouver Island, to source as many local products and services as we can find,” said Joe Rogoff, president of Whole Foods Market’s Pacific Northwest Region.

The Victoria store will be the sixth Whole Foods location in B.C. It will be located on Blanshard Street in Saanich and is expected to open in the fall of 2016.

The Edmonton store will also open in the fall of 2016 in South Park Centre on Calgary Trail.

Whole Foods does not yet have specific details for the Calgary location but has an expected opening date of summer 2017.

The company says that in addition to hundreds of construction jobs, each store is estimate to created 150 jobs in each community.
