Janel Squirrel's death confirmed as homicide as Calgary police arrest suspect

A suspect has been arrested in the death of a 26-year-old woman found in her home Tuesday in the northeast Calgary neighbourhood of Whitehorn, with police saying they believe it to be a case of domestic violence.

A suspect has been arrested in the death of a 26-year-old woman found in her home in northeast Calgary, with police saying they believe it to be a case of domestic violence.

Janel Squirrel was found in the basement of her house in Whitehorn Tuesday afternoon when EMS responded to a call on Whitmire Bay at about 3:30 p.m.

​Police say an autopsy confirmed the death was a homicide.

A suspect in custody has been charged with manslaughter.

The 45-year-old man is expected to be in court on Nov. 12.
