A Calgary man has taken home a $1 million windfall after playing a winning Western Max lottery ticket.

Philip Pedro said he couldn't believe his eyes when he realized he had matched all seven numbers — 3, 15, 19, 21, 24, 36, and 40 — needed to win one of Western Max's million-dollar draws on May 15.

"I thought it must be a mistake," Pedro said.

The ticket was purchased at Petro Canada at 5031 Nose Hill Drive N.W.

Pedro, who waited until lottery offices had re-opened from the COVID-19 shutdown to claim his prize, said that the money will go toward helping out family, paying off debt and investing.

"It will definitely help us achieve some of our goals."
