Warning issued for 'Calgary Police News Magazine' scam

Police are warning people about a new telephone scam after complaints from Calgary residents.

Police say caller aggressively asks people to place ads in fictitious magazine with credit card

Police are warning people about a new telephone scam after complaints from Calgary residents.

They have received complaints over the last few days about a caller claiming to be from the "Calgary Police News Magazine."

Police say he aggressively requests that people place ads in the magazine and then demands personal information about the victims and their credit card numbers.

Calls display from a 403-168-7441 number, which investigators have traced back to Woodbridge, Va.

Officials say the "Calgary Police News Magazine" does not exist, and the Calgary Police Service does not solicit advertisers.

People are being asked to report any similar calls, as police want to capture as much information as possible including any phone number that may be visible on call display.
