Tour of Alberta director says race bringing international buzz

The organizer of the Tour of Alberta says the bike race is gaining international attention.

The 700-kilometre race winds through a number of towns and cities in the province. Some of the 120 cyclists taking part have also competed in well-known races like the Tour de France. 

"It's already starting where Alberta is being mentioned as the next race on the circuit, if you will, and the hype is gathering," said Duane Vienneau, executive director of the race. "People are starting to be talking about Alberta and all of our communities right away, you know, world wide."

Vienneau says the race brings a lot of economic benefits to Alberta.

The second annual race will begin Sept. 2 in Calgary and will finish five days later in Edmonton.
