Calgary police have charged a man in relation to the death of his 46-year-old landlord in McKenzie Towne this week.

Ryan Kinoshita, 29, faces a charge of a second-degree murder.

The victim was identified as Joel Aaron Clark, of Calgary, after an autopsy was completed by the medical examiner's office.

Clark was Kinoshita's landlord. Both were living in the same residence, police say.

The death marks the city's sixth homicide of 2024.

Police were called to a home in the 300 block of Prestwick Terrace S.E. at about 8:25 a.m. on Monday for a reported assault, officials said in an earlier release.

On arrival officers found one man dead.

A suspect fled the scene before police arrived, authorities said.

Police arrested a man about 45 minutes later at a nearby shopping plaza.

According to police, there were others in the home at the time of the incident who called 911.
