Shaw to rebuild, expand in downtown Calgary
Shaw Communications says renovations in its downtown Calgary location should be complete by the spring of 2014 after it was closed because of an electrical fire last July.
Shaw is also expanding to include 12 floors in two towers that will be constructed across the street. The new building is expected to be completed by 2016.
"Shaw's commitment to rebuilding and expanding its corporate headquarters downtown will be a lasting contribution to a vibrant city centre," said Mayor Naheed Nenshi in a release.
"This project will be an important part of the downtown core and Calgary's economy."
Last year's fire in an electrical room on the 13th floor activated the sprinkler system, resulting in water damage throughout the building and affecting telecommunication services in the city.
More than 900 employees were forced out of Shaw Court, located on Third Avenue S.W., while the renovations are completed.
