School bus fee hikes suggested for CBE

The Calgary Board of Education should hike the fees it charges parents for bus service by almost 60 per cent, officials say.

The Calgary Board of Education should hike the fees it charges parents for bus service by almost 60 per cent, officials say.

It currently costs about $200 per year for a child to use the service. Administration officials are recommending the CBE increase the fee to more than $300.

The family rate should jump about $300 to nearly $700 per year, officials suggested.

But at the board's meeting on Tuesday, trustees voted unanimously to put over discussion of the new transportation fees until later this month.

Calgary parent Chrystina Lusney said she stopped sending her children to school on the bus because it wasn't worth the money.

"It's too expensive and not convenient for parents," she said.
