School bus driver shortage worst ever, company manager says

One of Calgary's main school bus providers is dealing with a chronic driver shortage that's causing some major delays in service.

Southland Transportation manager Chris Castellarin says the company is 35 to 50 drivers short.

He said it’s the worse shortage Castellarin has ever seen, even forcing him to get behind the wheel to help cover all the routes.

“We're doing everything we can. We're working the long hours, we're doubling our recruitment and our advertising and our training efforts of getting these folks in and through the program, and our on the roads,” he said.
