Calgary police are warning the public about a telephone scam where the caller claims to be a police officer trying to raise money for youth education and outreach programs.

Over the past few weeks, police say they have received numerous reports that a man posing as a police officer is asking for donations.

When asked for more specific information, the caller would then hang up.

Calgary police want to remind people that it does not ask for donations for any programs, and anyone receiving a call should report it to authorities with as much information about the caller as possible, like any call display numbers.

Anyone with information can call Calgary Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
