S.W. location chosen for all-boys school
Calgary's new all boys public school will be located at Sir James Lougheed School in the southwest, officials said Wednesday.
Calgary's new all boys public school will be located at Sir James Lougheed school in the southwest, officials said Wednesday.
The site at 3519 36 Ave. S.W. was chosen because it is central and the existing school was slated to close at the end of this year, said Naomi Johnson, chief superintendent of schools for the Calgary Board of Education.
CBE officials said more than 200 parents have expressed interest in the all-boys program, which will offer kindergarten to Grade 5 in the 2011-2012 school year. Grade 6 will be added the following year.
"An all-boys program creates an alternative to personalize learning for boys with varied backgrounds and abilities," said Johnson in a written release.
