Reserved LRT parking changes postponed by council
Changes too confusing, councillor says
Calgary city council will wait before altering any of the rules for reserved parking at LRT park-and-ride lots.
Currently, you can guarantee a parking spot for $70 a month. Council was thinking about changing the policy and a committee came up with a laundry list of changes that would allow people who reserve a parking spot to have more time to actually use the spot during the day. There was also a proposal to take a lot-by-lot approach to how reserved parking works.
However, council voted Monday to have administration report back in February.
Ald. Brian Pincott said he asked for the deferral to avoid making the situation too confusing for Calgarians.
"Some of the recommendations that were being contemplated were having different expiry times on different stalls in the same lots, and different lots and different rates and different times of day, just … you know, it's got to be easy," Pincott said.
"It's got to be easy for people to understand. Hell, it's got to be easy for council to understand and we certainly didn't have any of that before us."
Up to half of the spaces at any lot are available as reserved spots. A couple of LRT lots are almost fully subscribed for reserved parking while at others, most reserved spaces sit empty.
