Alberta Health Services says people to should avoid uncooked shellfish.

The announcement follows dozens of illnesses connected to eating raw oysters from British Columbia.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says 19 people have fallen ill in Alberta and another 48 have become sick in B.C. from bacteria that occur naturally in oceans.

The bacteria are often found in higher concentrations during the summer months when water temperatures rise.
