Rachel Notley announced her slimmed-down cabinet shortly after being sworn-in as Alberta's 17th premier on Sunday.

It is the smallest cabinet in Alberta since Social Credit ruled the province decades ago, with ministers taking over multiple portfolios.

There are three Calgarians in her 12-person cabinet.

  • Former city councillor Joe Ceci, who represents Calgary-Fort, will take over as president of the treasury board and minister of finance — two powerful positions placing him in charge of budgets and spending.
  • Kathleen Ganley, a labour and employment lawyer who grew up in Edmonton but lives and works in Calgary and represents Calgary-Buffalo, is the new minister of aboriginal affairs, minister of justice and Solicitor General of Alberta.
  • Finally social worker and lawyer Irfan Sabir, representing Calgary-McCall, is the new minister of human services, which oversees social services in the province.
