Roughly $1,000 stolen so far
Calgary's Poppy Fund says about 15 donation boxes have been stolen so far this year at gas stations and retail outlets across the city.
Joey Bleviss, chief administrator of the fund, estimates about $1,000 has been taken and it has a big impact.
"The people they hurt the most are the veterans, their spouses and their dependants — you know, the people that we're trying to assist ... that helped us get to where we are so we that we can enjoy what we have in today's society," he said.
"I think it's pretty low of them to take the money boxes. If they want help there is help available."
Bleviss says a few boxes are taken every year, but these thefts seem to be on the rise.
