A man has died after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street earlier this week.

According to police, a man in his 30s was crossing the intersection of 17th Avenue and 42nd Street S.E. around 9 p.m. on Jan. 26.

He was then struck by a Toyota Prius driven by a 47-year-old man.

Police say the pedestrian was transported to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

As a result of his injuries he died on Jan. 29.

The collision is still being investigated, but investigators believe the pedestrian crossed against the light and that alcohol may have been a factor.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene, police said. Alcohol, drugs and excessive speed are not believed to have been factors for the driver.

Police said this is Calgary's third pedestrian fatality of 2021.
