A suspect has been arrested  over the weekend for two random assaults that occurred at St. Mary's University last week.

Calgary Police say in a news release that on Tuesday night at approximately 7:40 p.m., an employee at the university in the southeast was randomly attacked by an unknown man.

Upon the suspect entering the school, he told the employee he was there for a meeting before exiting the university.

Investigators believe the suspect later gained re-entry when the employee opened a door leading outside. It's alleged the suspect pushed the victim to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked the person before fleeing the area.

According to police, after reviewing CCTV footage of the attack, they believe the suspect is also responsible for a random tire slashing incident that took place in St. Mary's University's parking lot on Feb. 13.

"We believe both of these attacks to be random and unprovoked," said police in a news release.

Cory Carl Szabo, 38, of Calgary was arrested by Cochrane RCMP and remains in custody, with pending charges of assault causing bodily harm.

Police say he will appear in court on Tuesday.
