Peace Bridge vandalism in Calgary causing repair problems for city
City looks for cost-effective solutions after clear panels, lights damaged
Vandalism to the Peace Bridge is fairly common and is creating problems for the city, as it prepares to fix more damage.
The city has had to replace eight clear panels since the bridge opened three years ago. Now two more panels at the top are cracked.
Spokesperson Jessica Bell says it looks like a blunt object was used to break them.
"Because it requires a specialized piece of equipment to access them, so right now we're in the process of looking over proposals from several contractors to see what option is best for us,"she said.
Some floor lights have also been damaged, either by improper drainage or vandalism. Bell says the city is trying out some glow in the dark lights which have a flatter profile.
The $24.5-million bridge was designed by celebrated Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
