A man in his early 20s is in hospital after a shooting in the northwest Calgary community of Panorama Hills late Tuesday night.

Police say the man was shot shortly after arriving home in the 0 to 100 block of Panamount Heights around 11 p.m. MT.

"Upon exiting his vehicle, he was approached by an unknown male who spoke with him briefly before shooting him," said police in a release.

The victim was able to enter his home, where his family called 911.

A member of his family tried to take him to hospital, but a police cruiser stopped the vehicle and EMS then transported the victim to hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

Police do not believe it was a random attack.

"The suspect is described as a black male dressed in black. He was driving an older model gold or champagne Acura RDX or Lexus RX350," police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and is being led by the police's guns and gangs unit.
