Nurses voting on new contract

Alberta's 24,000 registered nurses are voting Tuesday on a mediator's contract recommendations.

Alberta's 24,000 registered nurses are voting Wednesday on a mediator's contract recommendations.

The mediator is proposing a 15 per cent wage increase over three years. If accepted, it would make Alberta's nurses the highest paid in the country.

Karen Craik of the United Nurses of Alberta says the main concern is working conditions and staff retention.

The union is telling its members to make up their own minds and is not recommending acceptance or rejection.

Results of the vote won't be known until Thursday.

Alberta nurseshave been without a contract since the end of March.
