Nepal earthquake: Calgary doctor sets up clinic
Brad Granberg is helping villagers rebuild their lives in wake of disaster
A Calgary doctor has helped set up a mobile medical clinic in a small Nepalese village 20 kilometres from the epicentre of a devastating earthquake.
"In Baluwa, when we did our first assessment, approximately 90 per cent of the homes had been destroyed," said Brad Granberg. "Most people are living under tents that were initially given our by multiple teams that were on the ground in the first few days."
- Granberg's photos above demonstrate the devastation in the village.
The clinic treated 170 patients the first day, but numbers have declined to 80-100 patients per day. The clinic has sent teams into the surrounding hills to help those who can't travel.
"At this point a lot of the injuries from the earthquake have been treated, or they've sought treatment in different place," said Granberg.
"We're seeing a lot of injuries from trying to repair — lacerations, some broken bones, a lot of chronic conditions that people have kind of been dealing with over the years."
