Naheed Nenshi and 'Big City Mayors' talk infrastructure, housing

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi is in Ottawa Wednesday to meet his counterparts from the other big Canadian cities.

Housing and a proposed new national infrastructure program are on the agenda for the one-day meeting of the Big City Mayors’ Caucus, which is organized every two or three years by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

“There were, as you know, some concerns that we had with the criteria of the Building Canada Fund,” he said.

“As I said before I think that these are solvable, and hopefully solvable before April 1. We still have a month and if they're not solvable for 2014, let's at least fix them for 2015.”

Nenshi said he also plans to discuss the housing crisis facing municipalities across Canada with Candice Bergen, the minister of state for social development.

While in Ontario, Nenshi will also give speeches in Kingston, Toronto and London. 

Part of his trip is being paid for by Calgary Economic Development as Nenshi tries to encourage people and businesses to move to Calgary.
