Man in serious condition after downtown Calgary shooting
Suspects have not yet been located, say police
Calgary police are investigating after a man was shot in downtown Calgary on Monday afternoon.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at 2:50 p.m. at the 1000 block of 17th Avenue southwest, a busy downtown street.
EMS responded shortly after and found the victim, a man in his late teens, with traumatic injuries consistent with a firearm.
The man was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in serious but stable condition, said EMS.
It is believed the man suffered a gun shot wound to his arm, police said in a statement.
Following the incident, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle fleeing the scene. While any suspects have yet to be located, police are asking those who were in the area of 17th Avenue southwest between ninth and 11th street between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. to come forward with information.
"There were lots of people in the area, for sure," a spokesperson told CBC News.
Police were unable to confirm if the shooting on 17th Avenue is related to a shooting earlier in the day in Calgary's Acadia community.
