Calgary police have identified the victim of a fatal assault they say was targeted and took place early Saturday in Mayland Heights.

Officers responded to reports of a disturbance in one of the units in an apartment complex in the 1800 block of 14th Avenue N.E. around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 6.

A man was found dead inside the apartment when they arrived, police said.

An autopsy was completed on Tuesday, and the victim was identified as 65-year-old Raymond William Senecal.

Investigators said they are not able to provide a description of the culprits but believe multiple offenders were involved in Senecal's death — whom they also believe was targeted while at home.

Offenders may have removed unknown items from the apartment, which police said they may be attempting to sell.

"This case is unsettling for many and we are really looking for the public's assistance to help direct our investigators," said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta with the homicide unit.

"There are people out there who may have seen something, or might even know who is involved, and we are asking them to come forward to police or anonymously to Crime Stoppers."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
