A 29-year-old Lethbridge man has been charged with assault after a stabbing on the weekend.

Two men, who are known to each other, were involved in an altercation outside of the city's Supervised Consumption Site (SCS), according to a news release from Lethbridge Police sent Monday.

Police were called at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday after they said the 29-year-old struck a 39-year-old man in the head, knocking him to the ground, and then stabbed him in the face with a knife.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated and released.

The accused was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

A Justice of the Peace released the accused from custody with several conditions, including a prohibition from attending within 100 metres of the SCS.

The 29-year-old was arrested for breach of recognizance after he was spotted at the SCS on Sunday.

The accused is currently in custody awaiting a second Judicial Interim Release.
