Numerous charges have been laid in a fatal hit and run in northwest Calgary Sunday.

Police were notified when a witness saw two men breaking into a truck and driving away on 20th Avenue. The truck allegedly sped through a red light and hit a car making a left turn at 10th Street.

A 58-year-old woman, who was a back-seat passenger in the car, suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital.

The two men in the stolen truck attempted to flee the scene but were followed by witnesses and the police helicopter.

Christopher James Rae, 26, was arrested and charged with criminal negligence causing death, hit and run and being impaired by drugs.

Police spokesman Kevin Brookwell said the passenger in the stolen truck was also arrested but has not yet been charged with any criminal offences.
