A 17-year-old girl died in a Calgary hospital Tuesday morning after suffering severe injuries in a multi-vehicle crash in Lethbridge the day before, according to police.

Investigators said the collision happened around 3:15 p.m. on Westside Drive West, south of Highway 3, when a southbound car was rear-ended by a truck and pushed into the northbound lane, where it was hit again by another truck.

The 16-year-old driver of the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries but the 17-year-old passenger was more seriously hurt.

She was rushed to hospital in Lethbridge and then transferred to Calgary, but police said she succumbed to her injuries in the early-morning hours.

No one in either truck was seriously hurt.

Police don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
