Two adults and an infant were taken to hospital after a car smashed into a KFC restaurant in southwest Calgary shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

The grey Honda crashed through a construction barrier and the front wall of the restaurant before coming to a stop fully inside the building.

The restaurant is located at 17th Avenue and 12th Street S.W., and a portion of the road was closed while emergency crews responded.

EMS said the driver of the car was assessed on scene and was not injured.

Two adults and an infant who were inside the restaurant were taken to hospital: a 33-year-old man in critical, life-threatening condition, later upgraded to stable condition; a 30-year-old woman in stable condition; and an eight-month-old baby who was unhurt, but will be monitored.
