Alberta Parks has closed a hiking trail in Kananaskis Country, citing multiple grizzly bears in the area.

The closure affects Rawson Lake Trail and basin, including Sarrail Ridge, in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. The trail is accessed from Upper Kananaskis Lake.

The area is closed until further notice.

Alberta Parks says bears can be encountered in K-Country at any time.

To avoid running into a bear, the provincial agency recommends travelling with a group, making a lot of noise, being aware of your surroundings, carrying bear spray, and keeping your pet on a leash.

For a list of advisories and public safety alerts, visit the Alberta Parks website.

More information about bear safety while in Kananaskis can be found here.

Alberta Parks says to report all bear sightings to 403-591-7755.
