But Iginla's property isn't the only luxury home in Calgary selling fast.

According to the local real estate board, the number of homes selling for more than a million dollars is up in Calgary at 240 so far this year, compared to 171 last year.

Buyers appear to be young professionals working in oil and gas, investment banking and the building industry.

"We are a very wealthy city," said Ann-Marie Lurie of  the Calgary Real Estate Board.

"There's people who have been continually earning wages that are higher, we have very strong employment growth — and all of this is factoring into that demand for housing."

But luxury homes only make up three per cent of total home sales in Calgary.

  • An earlier version of this story said the home was 11,000 square feet, but it is actually closer to roughly 5,000 square feet. The lot the house sits on is roughly 11,000 square feet.
