One of the stars of the Jackass franchise has been arrested at Calgary International Airport and charged in connection with an onstage melee at one of his comedy performances.

Stephen Gilchrist Glover, who goes by the name Steve-O on the hit stunt show, is accused of assault with a weapon in a fight during a New Year's Eve performance in 2003 at the University of Calgary.

Police said an audience member jumped out of the crowd and took a few swings at the comedian before being restrained by security.

That's when Glover, who has also been a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, allegedly hit him with an unknown weapon.

Police said the man was taken to hospital with minor injuries and two other people were also charged in the fight.

The outstanding warrant was noticed by U.S. customs officials on Sunday when Glover was in Calgary to perform.

He appeared before a justice of the peace and was released on bail of $10,000, police said.
