Alberta RCMP say two men were taken to hospital after a plane crash Thursday afternoon near High River.

RCMP said they were called shortly before 4 p.m. to scene outside High River Regional Airport.

Investigators say it's yet unclear what led to the crash.

EMS spokesperson Adam Loria said in an email to CBC that paramedics responded to the grassy field east of Highway 2 between 554 Avenue and 594 Avenue around 4 p.m.

"I do not have scene details, but can confirm that two adults have since been transported via ground ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. Each person sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries," Loria said.

The Alberta Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, RCMP said.

High River is approximately 70 kilometres south of Calgary.
