Brentwood home invasion victim is Calgary's first homicide of 2024
Autopsy confirms identity, two other victims still in hospital
Calgary police say the death of a man Thursday in a Brentwood home invasion is now officially deemed a homicide, the city's first this year.
On Friday, an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of the deceased as John Wayne Davis, 53, according to a news release from the Calgary Police Service.
Police did not release the cause of death.
Two other people were injured inside the home. They remain in the hospital and are in stable but serious condition, police said.
CPS has not release information on possible suspects.
Police said they were called to a house on Braden Crescent N.W. around 9:15 a.m. Thursday for reports of a home invasion.
Just 12 hours earlier and less than two kilometres away, three other people were injured in a home invasion in the community of Banff Trail.
Following the two home invasions, police held a press conference on Thursday. Officials confirmed police had been called to the residence on Braden Crescent in the past but did not confirm the nature of the previous visits.
Officials noted they hadn't seen any immediate connection between the two home invasions but were not ruling it out at that time.
Anyone with any information on the Brentwood homicide is asked to call police or contact Crime Stoppers.
