Police have released a description of the man who left the scene after hitting a toddler in Deer Ridge in southeast Calgary last Monday.

Police said a three-year-old girl named Kaylie was crossing a green space at the Deerfield Villas townhouse complex when she was struck by a dark-coloured SUV at around 10: 40 a.m. on June 22.

The driver did not remain at the scene. The child was taken to Alberta Children's Hospital with serious head injuries.

Police are looking for a minivan-style vehicle, possibly dark green. Police described the driver on Monday as a Black male with very close-cropped hair or a bald head.

At the time of the incident, police said it was possible the driver was not aware that he had struck the child.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Calgary Police Service's traffic reconstruction unit at 403-428-4000.
