The weather forecast is looking good in Calgary for the August long weekend, so here's what you'll need to know to make the most of it.

Environment Canada is forecasting sunny skies and highs in the low-to-mid-20s from Friday through to Heritage Day on Monday, when it's expected to reach 24 C.

The city says some municipal facilities and services will be operating at a reduced level on holiday Monday, but there'll still be lots of things to do around town all weekend.

City services:

Calgary Transit:
Calgary Transit will run on its Sunday schedule on Monday, Heritage Day.

Parking and road closures:
On-street parking is free on Monday and holiday rates will be charged in Calgary Parking Authority parkades and select surface lots. Regular rates will be in effect at the Calgary Zoo, Telus Spark and Heritage Park.

All City of Calgary administrative buildings, including City Hall, will be closed on Monday. All municipal pools (except Southland and Village Square leisure centres) will also be closed.

Things to do:

  • Heritage Park Historical Village: Heritage Park is open all weekend with regular admission prices. On Heritage Day, the park will have costumed interpreters bringing history to life in the homes, shops, and on the streets.
  • Fort Calgary: Fort Calgary is open this weekend. On Monday, it's hosting a Heritage Day party with interactive crafts, scavenger hunts, Indigenous workshops and historical carpentry demonstrations. Entry is by donation.
  • Heritage Day Festival at Olympic Plaza: From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, there will be performances, cultural foods and handicrafts. There's more information here.
  • Inglewood Sunfest: From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday in Inglewood along Ninth Avenue S.E., the festival features an inflated bouncer for the kids, bands, street performers, patios and more than 200 vendors. There's more information here.
  • Outdoor pools and spray parks: Soak up the sun at one of the city's wading pools, spray parks or outdoor pools. Check the status of city-run parks here.
  • Leisure centres: Both Southland and Village Square leisure centres are open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. Regular admission applies.
