Halloween snow on the way for Calgary
Flurries projected by Environment Canada for morning, afternoon
Trick-or-treaters should be prepared to bundle up on Thursday — flurries are in the forecast for Halloween.
Environment Canada is projecting periods of snow to start around 9 a.m. on Oct. 31 that should end by mid-afternoon.
Those going door-to-door later in the day are likely to dodge the snowfall, but temperatures are supposed to dip below freezing around 8 p.m.
They should hover throughout the evening between –1 C and –6 C, while last year temperatures stayed above freezing overnight.
"This year's probably going to be relatively close to last year — maybe a little bit cooler, maybe a little bit snowier," said Dan Kulak, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
"There's going to be a chance of snow throughout the region … and the possibility of a little bit of wind as well. So bundle up, but have some fun."
According to Kulak, winds could be gusting between 30 and 50 km/h, and this will add a bite to the cold.
But considering weather in other parts of Alberta, Calgary might be getting off easy — Environment Canada meteorologists tweeted on Tuesday that temperatures reached record lows across the province, including –23.3 C in Banff.

Kulak says the warmest Halloween on record in Calgary was 21.1 C in 1958.
Conversely, the coldest Halloween daytime high was –15.7 C in 1984.
