Calgary firefighters “rescued” some geese today from a downtown parking lot.

Connie Cooper, who works downtown, spotted the geese Thursday morning in a parking lot at 5th Avenue and 5th Street S,W. — nowhere near the river.

Firefighters spent nearly two hours corralling the geese into a blue recycling cart. They were then released near the Bow River.

“[I'm] very relieved," said Cooper.

"There's lots of traffic down in Calgary at lunch, and they were in a parking lot, and then on a busy street, and it's a really hot day and they didn't have any fresh water or food and they were pretty terrified."

Two Canada geese and three goslings were brought from the interior of downtown to the Bow River earlier today. (CBC)
