Former Hutterite sees life through new lens
Calgary Eyeopener's Danielle Suchet talks to local photographer and former Hutterite Kelly Hofer about his work and life after the colony.
Kelly Hofer spent most of his life on a Manitoba Hutterite colony.
So when he picked up a new hobby it ruffled some feathers in the traditional community.
Hofer started taking photographs of daily life on the colony, which is in conflict with a Bible passage that Hutterites claim prohibits them from having their photograph willingly taken.
Hofer left the colony a few weeks ago to start a new life in Calgary.
He now spends his days working and photographing people in his favourite place — Stephen Avenue.
