Regular service has resumed on the Red Line of the LRT after a man in his 40s was struck and killed by a CTrain in southwest Calgary early Tuesday morning.

It happened shortly after 4 a.m. at the Somerset-Bridlewood station, which is the last stop on the Red Line, police say.

"He was obviously a pedestrian," said Sgt. Steve Campbell of the Calgary Police Service. "We're unsure at this time why he was on the CTrain tracks."

No further information about the victim has been released. The incident is still under investigation.

Somerset station was closed for several hours as shuttle buses took riders from Somerset to the Shawnessy and Fish Creek stations. Calgary Transit tweeted at about 10:30 a.m. that normal service had resumed.
