Two people are dead after a crash in southwest Calgary on Saturday evening.

Two pedestrians are dead after a crash in southwest Calgary on Saturday evening.

Police say they responded to the area of 85th Street and 17th Avenue S.W. just after 7 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, was extricated and taken to hospital in critical life-threatening condition.

Police's traffic unit is leading the investigation, and it was expected the area would be closed to traffic until early Sunday morning. 

No information as to what may have caused the crash was immediately available. 

Corrections

  • A previous version of this story stated that a passenger in the car was killed in the crash. The Calgary Police Service has since clarified that it was, in fact, two pedestrians that were killed.
