A backseat passenger died in a single-vehicle crash on 16th Avenue in northeast Calgary early Tuesday morning that police think was caused by impaired driving.

Police say three others occupants, including the driver, walked away with minor injuries, while a 32-year-old passenger was killed.

The BMW sedan driven by a 32-year-old man was heading east on Renfrew Drive N.E. just before 1 a.m. when it crashed through a fence and ended up on 16th Avenue N.E., which runs parallel.
