Calvin Timothy Brooker was killed at his home in southeast Calgary before his body was moved to the back alley in the community of Dover Glen, say police.

The discovery was made on Thursday morning in the 2700 block of 41A Avenue S.E., said Insp. Don Coleman of the major crimes section.

Brooker lived in the basement, with his elderly mother upstairs. A man who also lives in the house discovered Brooker's body and called police, Coleman said.

It's believed Brooker was killed in a violent confrontation sometime between midnight and 8 a.m.

"He likely knew his attacker," police said in a release.

Investigators believe the second man who lived in the house was home for at least part of the night.

"We're still trying to figure out what exactly those hours preceding Mr. Brooker's death looked like, which involves interviewing a number of people," he said.

"Anybody who had contact with Mr. Brooker in the hours prior to his death would be considered a suspect. This individual would be one and there are others as well, potentially."

Police say the cause of death is not being released at this time.

This is Calgary's 16th homicide of the year.
