A multi-vehicle collision on Deerfoot Trail near Peigan Trail sent two women to hospital and snarled traffic early Wednesday afternoon.

The collision happened around 2 p.m. and involved at least four vehicles, said Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department, which dispatched two engines to the crash site.

EMS spokesman Adam Loria said two women, both believed to be in their 60s, were injured in the collision and transported to hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

(Initially, EMS had said just one woman had been taken to hospital but later revised that to two.)

Calgary Transportation said northbound traffic on Deerfoot has been reduced to the two right lanes as emergency crews deal with the crash.
