Part of Crowchild Trail to close this weekend as crews move new pedestrian bridge truss
Section from 50th Avenue S.W. to Glenmore Trail to fully close Sunday from 1 to 8 a.m.
A section of Crowchild Trail in southwest Calgary will be closed overnight from Saturday to Sunday as crews move a large truss into place for a new pedestrian crossing.
The new bridge is being built over Crowchild Tail at 54th Avenue S.W., replacing an older crossing.
There will be a complete closure of that section of Crowchild from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday and partial closures two hours before and two hours after.
Crews will use trucks and cranes to move the truss into place starting late Saturday night along Richard Road to Mount Royal Gate and south on Crowchild Trail to 54th Avenue S.W.
Rolling road closures will be in effect along these routes while the truss is moved.
Here is the road closure schedule for Crowchild Trail between 50th Avenue S.W. and Glenmore Trail:
- 11 p.m. Saturday (June 15) to 1 a.m. Sunday (June 16): One northbound lane will be open and one southbound lane will stay open.
- 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday: All lanes closed.
- 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday: One northbound lane will open and one southbound lane open.
2-week closure of 10th Avenue westbound ramp
Drivers should also brace for some major traffic disruptions over the next two weeks further north along Crowchild, as the city completely shuts down the westbound ramp from 10th Avenue S.W. onto Crowchild Trail as part of the $87-million retrofit project.
The ramp is fully closed and will be until June 28 at 5 a.m..
