The Canada Revenue Agency is again warning all Canadian taxpayers to beware of emails that claim they are eligible for a tax return.

It says they are phishing scams that could result in identity and financial theft.

"After the last annual calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax return," claims one example of a scam email.

Some of the scams ask for personal information directly, and others refer the taxpayer to a website that looks like it belongs to the CRA.

The CRA says it would never ask for this type information.

"Taxpayers should not click on links included in these emails," said the agency in a release. "Email scams may also contain embedded malicious software that can harm your computer and put your personal information at risk."

Anyone who receives a suspicious email should report it to info@antifraudcentre.ca.
