Corb Lund, Ian Tyson perform at Siksika flood concert
Songs for Siksika expected to raise $40,000 for community
Hundreds of people are heading to the Siksika First Nation Sunday for a flood relief concert with big-name country music stars.
Corb Lund and Ian Tyson will perform at the Bassano Community Hall at 4 p.m. MT at a sold-out event. More than 800 people are expected to attend.
"I never thought it would get this big," said organizer Kelsey Solway. "I thought it would be, you know, something where a couple hundred people would come out. But you know, we're getting a lot of people and it's getting big."
Solway, a journalism student, says she pitched the idea to Lund during an interview.
Organizers are hoping to raise roughly $40,000. The money would be used to rebuild homes and infrastructure in the community, where many homes have been destroyed.
Severe flooding forced around 1,000 people from their homes on the Alberta first nation in June. Many have been living in tents and trailers since.
"A lot of people from southern Alberta are showing a lot of support for the cause," said Solway. "It's awesome to have that kind of support behind us."
