CBC Calgary partners with the Central Library on their Create Space
In celebration of Neighbour Day, we want to hear about your moments of joy and connection
In celebration of Neighbour Day on June 17, we've partnered with the Calgary Public Library on their Create Space in the Central Library for the month of June. As part of the exhibit we want to hear about moments of joy you've experienced in the city and invite you to share them with us at one of our many activity stations.
"The Create Space is a wonderful feature of the Central Library that lets us share different displays and play with different ideas," says Amanda Arbuthnot, Service Design Lead at the Calgary Public Library. "And we're fortunate to be partnering with CBC Calgary for a second time."
"We came together to find a way to activate the space that invites people to think about the favourite parts of their city," says Arbuthnot. "We really wanted to focus on the idea of Calgary as everyone's city, so you'll see a lot of notes from people who are visiting here for the first time and people who have moved here."
Community is at the centre of what we do at CBC Calgary, making the collaboration on this space a natural fit.
"Community is who we are," says Will Tigley, Manager, Communications, Brand and Marketing, CBC Calgary. "We all live and work here and want to share in the pride of our city."

Write a story together
Have you ever typed on a vintage typewriter? Well now's your chance! Think of it like the Telephone Game, but on paper. At this station, add a line of text to the page to contribute to this community written story.
Where is the heart of your Calgary?
What is the most important or central place in your own personal city? Take a heart sticker and place it on the map to show this place, then tell us your story on a note card.
Inderjeet Kaur moved to Calgary from India four months ago and her favourite place to visit is near the Bow River.
"A good park near a city is a dream come true for me," says Kaur. "I find the flowing of the Bow River is like meditating in myself.
Step inside our giant headphones
How do you stay connected to others? For us, it's hearing your stories and sharing them so you know what's happening in your city and province. We worked with Lethbridge artist and developer Jared Garrick from Rovu Developments & Creative Agency to bring these headphones to life — and yes, they work! Step inside to hear what's playing and don't forget to snap a pic.

What makes a good neighbour a great neighbour?
Have you lent a helping hand to a neighbour? At this station, we're measuring the acts of kindness in the community. Pop a red cube in the corresponding box if you have helped your neighbours in any of the following ways. And pop in a blue cube if you have been helped by your neighbour in these ways:
- Shoveled snow
- Hosted dinner
- Said "hello!" to a neighbour
- Mowed grass or raked leaves
- Shared an ingredient needed for a recipe
- Given homemade food
- Walked or cared for a neighbour's pet
- Babysit neighbourhood kids
- Drew a picture in sidewalk chalk
Tell us about a time...
When did you know you were a Calgarian? What was the best night out you've ever had in Calgary? Is there a store, restaurant, building or park that no longer exists that you miss? Let us know by writing your answer on a post-it and sticking it on the corresponding wall.
Why do you volunteer?
Volunteers make the world go round. And we want to know what keeps you coming back to support your community? Write your answer on a sticky note and add it to the wall.
