Charges upgraded in fatal stabbing of navy veteran in Calgary
Suspect now facing second-degree murder charge in death of Edward Brett Davidson
The man accused in the stabbing death of a navy veteran who had only recently moved to Calgary has had the charges against him upgraded to second-degree murder from manslaughter.
Police announced Friday charges had been upgraded against Cory Carl Miklic, who also goes by the last name Szabo. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance on Tuesday.
Edward Brett Davidson, 39, was fatally stabbed outside his condo in the 1000 block of Ninth Avenue S.E. after he was confronted by a man he did not know, police said.
Davidson was born and raised on Vancouver Island, but had recently moved to Calgary "in search of a new adventure," his family said in a statement earlier this week.
